Switching from regular workouts at the gym to starting an at-home fitness routine can be rewarding for many people. Not only is it more affordable, it is also a huge relief for people who are cramped for time. If you have a space in your home already dedicated to working out than you are more likely to stick out your routine, even during your more hectic weeks. If you don’t have the space, just having the right equipment on hand helps you remain focused so you can reach your goal that much sooner!
Your at-home fitness routine takes effort though!
It’s very easy to get wrapped up in a sedentary lifestyle. A lot of times after a mentally exhausting day at the office it can be all too comforting just to wind down on the couch and drift away into the world of whichever TV show you’re currently streaming. When you get yourself the right stuff for your at-home fitness journey than you really can’t use “getting wrapped up in a new TV series” or any other silly excuse anymore. You can simply bring what you need to your living room and get a workout in while you watch. Even last night I got a quick ab workout in while watching Gossip Girl reruns.
In a previous post, DIY Water Bottle Weights, you can learn about making some DIY weights to add to your collection. This is a great idea for anyone who is just starting out and doesn’t have a lot of money to invest in fitness equipment.
I have teamed up with Amazon.ca to introduce you guys to some products that I think are essential for everyone who is starting their at-home fitness journey. The following post contains affiliate links. This means that if you decide to buy any of the recommended products I get compensated for the post at no extra cost to you.

Which 5 Items Do You Need?
With so many great products out there I had to narrow it down to what you really need to get started. What are we waiting for? Let’s get to it!
The Exercise/Yoga Mat
Safety is important. It’s very important that you have a non-slip mat to work on. Even if you aren’t a yoga enthusiast, you should still be using the mat to do your workouts on. It will prevent you from slipping and sliding while you’re moving. It is unbelievably frustrating if you are trying to do some crunches and you starting sliding.
I can’t stress enough how important it is to take safety precautions every time you workout. Doing something as simple as rolling out a yoga mat can help prevent many unnecessary slips and falls. Consider something like this non-slip yoga mat for your next workout. The carrying strap makes it easier to take on the go too!
One item that I surprisingly fell in love with was my resistance band. I wasn’t expecting much when I threw it in my cart. There was a Pilates video that I was looking forward to trying out, but I needed a band before I could. I was so happy to see that you could workout pretty much every part of your body with this band when I browsed through the pamphlet.
The thing that I love the most about my resistance band is that I can feel if I am doing the exercise correctly. These bands are great for improving balance and flexibility as well. Improving your flexibility will improve your performance of other workouts.
This is one device that I use often but had no idea what the name of it was until I decided to write this post. To be fair, I’m still not convinced I got it 100% correct. The tummy trimmer is similar to a resistance band, but specifically made for ab and leg workouts. Unlike the resistance band, it has an opening for your feet and handles to hold onto while you workout.
I love this device for when I only have time to squeeze in a quick workout. If you have a hectic schedule and find that time is your enemy when it comes to working out, than you need a tummy trimmer too.
Easy Grip Dumbbells
There are so many workouts you can do without any equipment at all. That’s perfectly okay for when you’re first starting out. Once you get used to a certain exercise it’s always a good idea to challenge your muscles by adding a bit of weight to your routine. A set of easy-grip dumbbells is just what you need for when you’re ready to take that next step.
Your new at-home fitness routine will leave you with arms so toned that you won’t even miss your old gym membership. I love using dumbbells to add more challenge to my dance cardio workouts.
Bringing home (or ordering) an aerobic stepper is a good investment for anyone that enjoys a good cardio workout. It opens up a whole new world of routines for you to get your blood pumping. Some fitness experts suggest using the steps on your staircase to start out. That’s not always the safest route because if your steps aren’t slip proof an accident can occur way too easily. An aerobic stepper is under $50 and well worth every penny spent.
You can adjust the height in your stepper depending on how challenging you want your exercise to be. A stepper sounds boring, but it can actually be a really fun device to work with. Especially if you’re into dance cardio!
Now you can add some more challenges to your at-home workout routines!
A challenge is a good thing when it comes to improving your fitness level. These 5 items will help you stay fit at-home even during your busiest days. Say goodbye to making excuse and hello to meeting your fitness goals.
